Be the lighthouse

For those unfamiliar with the brand Yogi Tea, each tea bag has a label with a little quote written on it. A quote from one of my recent morning cuppas really resonated with me and is the inspiration for this article. It read:

“Spread the light, be the lighthouse”

After some pondering, I concluded that ‘light’ could be interpreted as a broad term for things like happiness, joy, kindness, hope and love. After pondering some more, I tried to think of some ways of how to ‘spread light’, and all the things I came up with had one thing in common… they’re all little things; surprisingly simple, would probably be unexpected, and definitely not done as often as they could be.

So, I’ve made it my mission this autumn to ‘spread the light’. I invite you to join me as often as you can by doing some of the following:

- Smile wholeheartedly at a stranger

- Ask a neighbour if there is anything you can do to support them

- Sincerely thank a colleague for something they did for you

- Ask a friend, who you’ve not spoken to for a while, how they’re doing

- Tell a family member how great it is to see them

- Tell someone really special how much you love and appreciate them

We all have the capability to be beacons of light, or ‘lighthouses’, in our families, our workplaces, and in our communities. Imagine if everyone spread their light… well, we’d need pretty heavy-duty sunglasses for starters…
